Saturday’s Patriot League meet at Valley High School in Gilcrest was a step in the right direction, especially for the Beetdigger ladies. Junior Adriana Gamboa kicked off the Diggers in the 100 meters, where she finished 11th with a time of 29.03 seconds.

Gamboa’s teammate, rookie Alexandrea Hass, raced her way into the top 10 in the 800 meters with a time of 2 minutes, 56.71 seconds in 10th place. She did even better in the 1,600 meter race after crossing the finish line in 6:38.82 for an eighth-place finish. The women’s 800-metre medley sprint relay team placed sixth out of eight with a time of 2:03.43.

Junior Addison Alexander took charge of the high jump as she battled her way to third with a 4-foot-10.50 clearance. All of the first three placers reached this height, but the first and second place winners cleared it in fewer attempts.

Sophomore Shyanne Garrett and junior Bailey Link completed the eight-nine punch to the disc with throws 80–09 and 77–07 as Garrett was fifth (27–08) and Link was 12th (25 –01) in shot put.

Sophomore Gunner Washburn took care of business on the boys’ side when he finished sixth with a 103–7 draw. The boys’ 4×400 meters relay finished sixth of nine at 3:52.23. Senior Cooper Keuroglian completed the top performances on the boys’ side with a 12th-place finish in the 200 meters in 24.53 and 16th in the 400 meters in 56.98.

Now all that’s left for the Diggers to focus on is the Colorado State Track and Field Championships in two weeks.
