Gunshot heard at empty Vallejo school prompts for lockdown; Suspect still wanted – CBS Sacramento

VALLEJO (CBS13) – An investigation is ongoing after police said shots were fired at an empty lot at the John Finney Education Complex campus in Vallejo on Wednesday morning.

According to Vallejo police, just before 9:30 a.m., officers responded to a report of gunshots being fired at the school.

It appears a suspect went to the empty lot at the west end of campus and fired a gun. School staff heard the noise and immediately locked the school down and called the police.

Officers quickly searched the suspect’s area, but the one who fired the weapon was not found.

More than 400 summer school students were on campus at the time, according to police. The campus remained locked down until students were released at 11:15 a.m.

Police are still trying to identify the suspect. He is described as a man in his 30s or 40s with a short, stocky build and wore a baseball cap, black puffy jacket, dark jeans, and no shoes. He was reportedly last seen near the 1300 block of Amador Street.

Summer school is expected to continue as scheduled on Thursday, according to police. There will be an increased law enforcement presence in the area.
