Doha: Minister of Labor HE Dr. Ali bin Smaikh Al Marri held an extensive meeting with the permanent delegates of the missions representing the Arab States to the International Labor Organization in Geneva, on the sidelines of the 346th session of the Council of administration of the ILO, currently being held in Geneva.

The Minister of Labor pointed out that labor markets have undergone fundamental changes due to the political and economic conditions and transformations witnessed by the international community, noting that the challenges facing the Arab region due to these changes call for cooperation and joint Arab action.

The meeting was attended by the Director General of the Arab Labor Organization (ALO), HE Fayez Ali Al Mutairi; the Head of the Arab League Mission in Geneva, HE Ambassador Ali Al Sammak; the Palestinian Minister of Labour, HE Nasri Abu Jaish; and a number of ambassadors from Arab states in Switzerland.

The meeting is held at the invitation of Dr. Al Marri as Qatar is the coordinator for Arab countries at the ILO, with the aim of strengthening joint Arab coordination.

Dr. Al Marri noted the experience of cooperation and coordination between Qatar and the ILO in recent years, stressing the importance of political and regional coalitions and their impact on the decisions issued by the organs of the organization. .

The Minister underlined the need to focus on issues of common interest to the Arab States, stressing the need for coordination between the representatives of the Arab countries before discussing them in the various meetings of the Board of Directors of the ILO and the International Labor Conference.

He explained that the unification of the position of the Arab group before the ILO helps to provide the necessary support to overcome the challenges facing labor markets in the region, noting that joint Arab statements have been presented on certain points. techniques at the 346th session of the ILO. Board of Directors.

The Minister underlined that the difficult conditions experienced by the workers of Palestine require that everyone continue to press the Israeli occupation to fulfill its obligations under international law, stressing the need to add the point on the development cooperation program for the occupied Arab territories.

He noted that Qatar, as coordinator of Arab countries within the ILO, will continue to strengthen joint coordination and unify positions, noting that many meetings will be organized to increase consultation and discussion on issues. labor market in Arab countries.

The meeting discussed ways to strengthen joint Arab action on the labor market and benefit from the successful experiences and expertise of Arab countries.

Several issues of common interest of the Arab region were also discussed.

The Arab group of the ILO has chosen Qatar as the coordinator of the group at the ILO in Geneva, within the framework of the organization of the work of the Arab countries within the organization.
