Vallejo Coast Guard Auxiliary announces boating safety course

VALLEJO – The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will host “Boat America,” a one-day safety course scheduled for September 10 at Solano Community College Vallejo Center.

“The class provides the knowledge necessary to obtain a California Boating Card. The course covers an introduction to boating, boating law, safety equipment, boating safety, navigation, boating emergencies, towing, storing and protecting your boating, hunting, fishing and waterskiing,” organizers said in a statement. “California requires all boat owners 45 years of age or younger to complete a certified safety boating course and carry the California Boater Card to operate a powerboat. Some insurance companies offer a discount to boat owners who pass this class.

The class, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., is $30 per person, with $10 per additional immediate family member: cash or check only.

The class will be held in room 136. The center is located at 545 Columbus Parkway. The Covid-19 protocol will be followed.
